결혼을 하거나, 관공서에 일하는 것이 무슨 잔혹 동요냐고 묻겠지만, 결혼은 인생의 무덤이라는 등의 외국 속담이 있듯이 문화적 용어가 달라서 이해하지 못하는 부분도 있을 수 있습니다.
열꼬마 인디언 소년들 원곡 가사와 멜로디는 점점 단순해져서 이제는 초기의 노래 그대로를 상상할 수 없을 정도로 달라졌습니다. 노래의 길이는 물론이고 가사 내용까지도 다 달라졌습니다. 그래서 세계적인 추리소설 작가 '애거서 크리스티'가 열꼬마 인디언 소년 가사를 모티브로 하여 <그리고 아무도 없었다>라는 소설을 썼다고 하면 믿지 않는 사람이 많습니다. 소설은 실제로 한 명씩 죽어가며 마지막에 아무도 남지 않는 결말을 가지고 있습니다.
